The audio sounds better in this episode!!! yay!
Prof. Wolff, Please watch the documentary 'What the Health' (on Netflix) and read the work by Dr. Barnard, Dr. Greger, Dr. Campbell, Dr. Esselstyn, Dr. McDougall, Dr. Klaper, to name a few doctors. You completely misunderstand the medical-pharamaceutical-animal agriculture industrial complex. The issue isn't that we aren't getting affordable drugs. The issue is that corporations and the medical establishment promote a diet that keeps people sick and dependent on unnecessary drugs and procedures. Also, watch 'Forks over Knives' and 'Plant Pure Nation'.
Can we support through letting ads play through? It isn't like your fan base is going to let consumerism grip them through YouTube ads.
Automation and technology will be the end of capitalism. When people aren't needed to produce things, the things produced will have no market value. Especially when you look at the idea of domestic 3D printers. Need a new phone? Just download the one you want and "print" it. No transportation cost, no labour cost. There is no way capitalism can operate under those conditions.
The arguments against Mr. Wolff's economic positions are inept. That's putting it kindly.
No More War
As co-chairs of the Green Party of New York, we write today in opposition to S.720, the Anti-Israel Boycott Act. The Green Party is committed to defending the civil right of freedom of speech, including the right to protest. We are also advocates of a foreign policy based on self-determination and human rights for all oppressed peoples. As such, S.720 deliberately assaults the former, and is diametrically opposed to the latter. Thus, we urge you to withdraw your co-sponsorship of S.720 and to oppose the bill in committee and on the floor.
By seeking to expand the Export Administration Act of 1979 and the Export-Import Bank Act of 1945, this bill would amend said acts to prohibit U.S. persons from supporting boycotts conducted by international organizations against Israel and its settlements in the Palestinian Occupied Territories. The bill would also extend penalties for simply requesting information about said boycotts. Amazingly, violators would be subject to a minimum civil penalty of $250,000 and a maximum criminal penalty of $1 million and 20 years in prison. This is a wholesale criminalization of political speech and an attempt to remove First Amendment protections from a type of speech that is explicitly protected, due to its controversial nature, by the Bill of Rights. It also attempts to restrict the use of a political tactic with a long, successful history in the United States, and one which has been used by marginalized and oppressed groups to pressure those with power. Boycotts organized during the Civil Rights Struggles of the 1960s and the anti-apartheid movement of the 1970s and 1980s had a positive effect in hastening the end of cruel and oppressive political orders. This bill targets individuals and groups, including the Green Party of New York, that support the call by Palestinians for boycotts, divestments, and sanctions in order to pressure the Israeli government to grant Palestinians fundamental human rights, and to end the illegal Israeli occupation of the Palestinian Territories. It is important to note that boycotts are peaceful political acts and not armed violence against a state or people, and are invoked when political or business leaders refuse to address persistent injustice. As a United States Senator you should recall that one of the most famous events in the birth of our nation, the Boston Tea Party, was the culmination of a boycott of British taxation. Surely you know of the Montgomery Bus Boycott, a seminal event in 20th century American history and part of a civil rights struggle in which current members of Congress such as John L. Lewis participated? Perhaps you have heard of Cesar Chavez and the boycotts he organized in order to help build the United Farm Workers union? S.720 attempts to abrogate the rights of U.S. persons to engage in a Constitutionally-protected, time-honored tradition of protest. If these rights can be curtailed, what further chilling of free speech and political rights will we see?
Finally, S.720 is clearly aimed at worsening the condition of the Palestinian people by criminalizing political protest on this specific issue in the United States. Human Rights Watch reports that over the last two years Israeli security forces killed at least 214 Palestinians and injured 15,156. Israel, along with Egypt, maintains a blockade on the Gaza Strip, severely limiting life-saving medicines and goods from entering the territory and engaging in an illegal form of collective punishment. Israel has increased its unlawful settlement activity in the West Bank, constructing a further 1,000 housing units to add to 560,000 settlers already illegally occupying territory. We choose to support boycotts of Israel to bring an end to the long-term oppression of the Palestinian people and to demand they be granted basic human rights.
Therefore, we strongly urge you to remove your co-sponsorship from S.720, and to oppose it in committee and on the floor. Please contact us if you have further questions or comments on the Green Party of New York’s opposition to this legislation.
Sincerely, Peter A. LaVenia, Jr.Gloria MatteraCo-Chairs, Green Party of New York
Peace Not War
you helped radicalize me. cheers!
Nice newscomments. Putting some things in perspective.
27:22 Sure they got a much "shorter workday", they got fired.
Instead of complaining about how much profit the company is going to make, you should be calculating the efficiency of the production and pointing out how inexpensive it would be to just produce it directly.
System driven by profit my ass. Profit is necessary for any business to be sustainable. Capitalism is system driven by greed.
When somebody already has everything he needs for comfortable or even luxurious life and he still needs more that's greed.
MORE MORE MOOOOORE
Great update ,thank you for the information professor.I was not shocked when you revealed young people today have less than their parents and it is not just in the U.S. exactly the same in the U.K.,however we do have our NHS which the Tory Party is still trying to dismantle.
Really like the new intro & graphics!
Hey, "professor"…lol…why dont you tell the people how to build and keep a healthy economy. You wont will you, Ive asked you to have a vid on that but you wont. You wont tell uss how to build and keep a strong economy. How come? Cause your a fuck stick. Your groupies follow you blindly. I dont follow anyone blindly. Thats how we got here. By following people blindly. Tell us professor how letting in 20 million illegals does not hurt the working class…Id like to hear it. Tell us how its GOOD to increase H1B visas by 250 thousand every year? Tell us how there is no difference between 10 people applying for a job and 1000 people showing up for that job. "professor of economics from Yale". Do you hear the laughter professor? Your a professor of muther fucking bullshit. Nothing more. I dont know why, but the good professor whom your all worship because you cant think for yourself, has an personal agenda.
So essentially the government is paying 400 workers for one year in this deal.
0:00–0:25 'Workers of the world, get 'em up'
The Gangsta intro is starting to grow on me.
Thanks for timestamps
As much as I hate capitalism, you have to admit that Arkansas would be better off with the T-Shirt plant reopening than without it running. Sometimes, mere survival gives you a chance to hope for a better tomorrow than giving up and dying today. That is the shitty truth about life.
Thank you Richard and all the team at Terra Times.
Have to watch it, Chinese companies will import Chinese workers for these 400 jobs if they can.
So, what can we do about it? Every time I see videos like this, I remember Nancy Pelosi admonishing a constituent about how " I hate to break it to you, but we are capitalists" without the slightest bit of shame.
Kids need to stop complaining about money & college and start listening to Mike Rowe. Though I like this channel I feel like too much marxism too early in life can destroy your work ethic. And it was random videos from random people like Mike Rowe… not college professors, not economic professors… just normal, happy, hard working people who set my brain straight about life and work. If you're planning to go to college, just graduated or looking for work YOU REALLY NEED to listen to Mike Rowe. The intro in this video is 11 mins long (skip it) but watch the whole video after that it gets really deep: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8DDJA4v0bk0
My own story real quick. I graduated college $60k in debt and couldn't find any jobs in my field. I was falling into a trap of depression, got radicalized by marxists… starting blaming the system, blaming capitalism… blaming EVERYTHING BUT MYSELF, my poor work ethic and lack of SKILLS. I found this video back in 2013 and decided NOT to use my psych degree. Instead I started a business in debt. By building a website and funnel online for free. Then I learned a trade, eventually learned 2 more and now I live a pretty decent life. I don't bust my ass or work like a slave. I only work 4 days a week. I have no boss. I love what I do, love my clients and learned most of what I know not in college… most I learned right on Google.
Good luck all.
Keep up the good work Dr. Wolff!
Boycott Mercedes, Audi, Volks Wagen, and especially, Adidas. Let all those stupid robots go to waste. The people have all the power, they just don't know HOW to use it.
Hmmm sounds like wisconsin and foxconn
We also pay more for generics. That's the corruption, baby! It's really that simple.
If you are looking for new ideas for videos, I'd suggest a detailed how to about starting worker's cooperatives. It is the only way forward without expecting unrealistic levels of cooperation from all levels of society. You have been a champion of cooperatives, but people need concrete examples showing how to make it happen.
Thank u Doc
This man is the most threaten force those in power are most fearful of and importantly unwilling to confront with facts. The Oligarchs understand the seriousness of his power and I doubt they will continue remaining silent. They will attempt to stop him. I hope he's safe and continues doing his great work, Thank you Mr. Wolff!!
Rly wanna hear Killa Mike rap over dat intro.
Can someone please tell Richard it's pronounced: Pay-Tree-On. Wink
Arkansas would be better just giving that money to 400 people who needed a job, or better yet pay up to 400 people to make the city better in education, healthcare, social services, or even just cleaning and improving the streets. the city improves and people get jobs, no need to give money to the private companies.
I saw a TED talk online yesterday, https://www.ted.com/talks/richard_j_berry_a_practical_way_to_help_the_homeless_find_work_and_safetyThe mayor of Albuquerque put money into people who needed jobs and with much better results than subsidising big business.
Dr Wolf. I am a huge admirers of your work and ideas, but I have to slightly take issue on your assertion that a co-operative with worker participation would have made a difference in the emissions scandal. All private and public German companies with over 2000 employees has to have 'codetermination' be law. It's called Mitbestimmung requires workers to make up half of a supervisory board of directors. Even with such a structure in place, this scandal was able to occur within several German car manufacturers.
"Market will deal with E V E R E T H I N G" well, now USA have the silliest healthcare. And don't start that "Corporatism" stuff!
Please define your terms. What. exactly is a Millennial? Who are the Baby Boomers, and is there a parental relationship there? I don't deny that young people today have been economically royally shafted by the legacy of Reaganomics, but the Keynesian wave died in the 70's, when the majority of the Boomers were just coming of age. This supposed generational conflict is being promoted by the power elites to cover class warfare. And, yes, I am a home owner. I bought my first house last year. I'm 61 years old.
Pension? What pension! Boomer – no pension, very little saved. Social security will give me the same income as someone making minimum wage ($7.50/hr). Every economic downturn caught me in the neck. Adjusted for inflation my =average= wages from the early 70s to the late 80s is just a little over $5k/yr. I had 4 years with ZERO income. I took on a bunch of debt and went to college in the 90s. I am not unusual.
Someone needs to re-crunch those numbers and remove the earnings of the top 1-5%. I think they will find Boomers (in the main) did not have such an easy street. Looking at the decline of the middle class – starting in the early 70s – logic would bear out this alternative narrative. Who was declining? Not The Greatest Generation nor the Silent Generation – they got the pensions, free education and low interest home mortgages. X-ers and Millennials weren't of working age. The only ones left, caught in the vise, were … the Boomers.
The ONLY survival mode open to me here in South Africa where we are in a deep recession that is not yet really acknowledged, is to become self-employed using my self-taught workshop skills. I have a small but growing list of customers and I do carpentry, make and repair furniture, repair homes and roofs etc. All on my own with another unemployed guy to assist. There are NO jobs. None.
So thats 49 million total that they will be paying employees if they work full time each year
"Twelve dollars an hour?! What do you want $9 an hour for? I can't pay $6/hr…"
do yourself a favor and buy bitcoin
funny how the "christian science monitor" pointed out alot of shit they never changed! LOL irony
plz make that monopoly game
and its not they are asking for much just enough to survive and not have to struggle daily to eat healthy and and safe place to live and dressed in clean clothes , i find our kids to want very little materialistically , the so called lucky ones who get ''higher'' education which i dont see them learning much , just to be slaves for the same assholes running things , i will not sit back and watch my kid be sucked in to the hell bound train . and the co op sounds just ax bunch more of whats happening now a few investors get the benifits eventually greed takes over the system is wrong the fed reserve needs to be shut down , im not sure about this is hs there hidden indoctrinate or deliver of bad news fear and anger despare
can't find the economic and total impact on the owners , replace vehicles , ??? what compensation package ???
The problem with any economic downturn/stagnation is that people never realize the REAL cause is their own government. It is the DUTY of every sovereign government to create enough of the national currency to satisfy the people's necessity to pay taxes and have enough residual currency in their pockets to support their society. If any sovereign government fails to create enough currency to satisfy the national demand for the currency, the level of insufficient supply will show up as unemployment and economic downturn/stagnation. In other words, the US Govt is simply not creating enough US Dollars to support it's society.
seriously why do we need this mgt class/venture capitalist class ?? what they are contributing to society except greed and misery for us all , themselves included , smh
Textile Companies in Tennessee and other southern states were paying $14-20 an hour plus benefits back in the early 1990s! So now 25 years later at best the companies will pay the same hourly wage and none of the old benefits while the cost of living is 2 1/2 times higher so overall these workers will make 3 times less in real terms per hour in wages and benefits compared to 25 years ago!
This man has single-handedly changed clarified economics for me. He's perfectly explained what everyone's been feeling. We know the politicians are lying because everything is always on the up-and-up, but quality of life has decreased, not just in a materialistic way, but in a way that most people are always working just barely getting by without any time to live, and the ones who can't get by are miserable on assistance or living at home, many even homeless. All because of a lie that was sold to us in the form of capitalism, which only enables greed and is conducive to a selfish society, which by definition, cannot work with respect to the collectivist nature of social systems that is incompatible with self-aggrandizement.
the new song is sick. very similar to square dance off of the eminem show haha
No but the people will have to pay the tax if they want the subsidy
I don't see any profits in the accountings except for drug dealers and the military complex
I watch your videos from the UK all the time.. we have many similarities to the US economy but I would love to hear your views on the UK economy.. we don't really have an overview of the UK economy with a left wing wing perspective..
The only left left wing media we have really is novara media but they don't do much of an overview economically.. it's more a social outcome of the capitalist system..
Love the content you produce, keep up the the good work 👍
11:10 Wrong! It's an oligopoly. Still, not that much of a difference though.
It's not how capitalism works, it's how corporatism works. Without the protective shell of corporations that buffer corrupt individuals from paying for the consequences of their action, those individuals would be taken out early in their careers for their pathological tendencies. Corporatism is an effective and efficient filter for pathological behavior.
Greetings from Argentina. Never get tired of listening to Professor Wolff.
Thank you for your work! I am now a supporter.
Capital respects no nation, no person, no species, no wilderness, only growth. The "right" has no working critique of capitalism's uneven development and its crushing outcomes for humanity, nature, and future generations. Yes, it produces widget mightily, and it creates destruction that cannot be repaired, like human caused global warming — see the recent Exxon documents exposing Exxon's knowledge of carbon dioxides role in causing global warming and Exxon's denial. We simply can't trust capitalism to regulate itself. We can trust capitalism to produce solar panels and other soft-technologies at a break-neck pace; it simply needs a boost from our government like our government boosted production of nuclear weapons.eddie evansClimateDeception.Net
Holy cow, you've come a long way since I started listening 5 years ago… cheers!
Love your vids. Always interesting!
Re: income gap: For education it depends on what you study. If you go into STEM or get an MBA, you'll make money. If you go into gender studies and interpretive lesbian dance then you won't.
Re: drug costs: Yeah. drug costs are high in the US because most of the research is done in the US. There are good ways to reduce these costs. Reform IP law, get money out of politics, reduce the government role and allow a free markets to work. Also the medical care in the US not poorer – it's the best available in the world. There are many reasons for lower life expectancy in the US. Mostly shitty diet and lack of exercise. BTW Richard, a monopoly means 1 not 4.
Re: cars: Yeah and the problem is that governments ARE too cosy with these industries. So is MORE government the solution? No LESS government is. But I agree with the idea of the better representation on the boards of directors of businesses.
I don't know all the numbers but the chinese company brings in 44,800,000 in salaries. What is the costs of the tax incentives?
And Trump lovers think their situation is about to change….LOLOLOL!!! It's gonna change alright…you're going to be worse off!
Richard, did you just wake up and discover the world you are living in? profits over people goes much deeper, the real horrors are not acknowledged by the media or society at large, Harvey was a weather engineered event, check the put options, and insurance trading, I'll bet that gun is still smoking. All this pales in comparison with glyphosate, aluminum, fluoride and radiation, all of which are contaminating and killing the population solely for the sake of profit! and thanks for your work.
the empire-falling treats its sick with business medicine.
The national debt is a big lie. Who do we owe twenty trillion dollars to? Sounds like a bunch of made up bullshit to squeeze as much money out the working people so the elites in our government can build their elaborate underground luxury bunkers that we will not be allowed to go into when the globalist maggots try to kill the rest of us to bring down the world population. They've done it before many times. Your history over the last twenty thousand years is a lie. They will never let you people advance beyond a certain point before they once again destroy most of the surface of the Earth. Any time human beings begin to advance and evolve we are wiped out down to just a few survivors on the surface. After a few decades, the elitists crawl out of their bunkers and start the process all over again. How many times do they get away with it?
Richard in this episode just admitted he isn't a market socialist if you listen to what he says about a mix of workers and consumer oversight.
even though this guy is a commie hes interesting to listen to. his sources for info are shoty though.
The problem is that tax rates have not been cut enough for the wealthy the last 35 years. Let's double down and cut them more. That way more piss will flow from above.
Dr. Wolff seems more nervous then when he was doing his lectures and speaking on his earlier shows.
I get 8 an hour. I would probably cry from happiness if I got 14. Thats almost double!
Multinational Corporations milking the system yet again !, Trump wants them to set up shop in the USA but its not bringing jobs. Its a win win for the business !
Is this economy is going to work it must work for all of us for if it doesn't it won't work for anyone. The elites forget one thing the tax rate at the end of a pitchfork is 100%.
Dr. Wolff; by using terms like "The System is flawed", makes a bunch of WWII veterans and their children, who are getting into their senior years nervous. They think you are wanting to change the US Constitution which they fought for but actually no longer resembles the principles it originally stood for. …ultimately…… They typically don't even know that. It would do you well to distinguish the system (that was created by the military folk getting into business selling wares to the government) and the fact that it can be changed without doing harm to the Constitution. The old codgers think your going to force White Girls to dance with Non-White girls.
the other side of "corporate profiteering" coin is "mass gluttony." we simply cannot have it both ways, we either need to reduce our "plastic appetite," which reduces our workload and increases our leisure time (if reduced workload and surplus is evenly REdistributed) OR enjoy our black Fridays and suffer the consequences. i think it's become misleading in a way to always pin it on the Big Guns, but how is each of us in our own way CHOOSING the closet full of shoes, the toy box filled with useless crap, the new phone, new car, new computer every year under the Xmas Tree?
I wish Prof Wolff taught Econ when I took it. He made me see beyond the cloud of distraction that most companies blow into our faces. It would be nice if he talks about the college education industry nowadays. The books that students are forced to purchase that cost an arm & a leg & the collusion certain schools, professors, publishing industry involved to push them. Much similar to the drug situation he mentioned where the pharmaceutical industry, hospitals, doctors, & medical insurance corps are all in cahoots with each other in pursuit of the almighty profit at the expense of humanity. It would be really nice if he mentions this topic in a forum sometime: the so-called not-for-profit college/university institutions. This may be naïve but it would probably be better to join a Shaolin temple; get admitted; develop intellectually (learn philosophy of life); develop physically (learn kung-fu); work hard; & leave with some wisdom that you actually use in real life (I watched too much kung-fu movies). Not the kind of crap they require you to take in universities nowadays that will cost $1000's for a measley unit (& most courses are 3-4 units) so you can graduate…cause if you don't take it, you can't graduate.
Richard, they compete for minimum wage no benefits p/t like wal mart and fast foods. w TX
Lol he speaks with such a pissed serious tone
When he mentions the brand names, john oliver but he did a segment of this that says that now there's a website to see if ur doctor's are getting lobbied by pharmacy to give u certain prescriptions
Wow the little Arkansas news is so messed up. Talk about the people getting excited to then be stabbed in the heart. You sign an agreement to excite the public with jobs to then tell them the catch is pure automation
Ignore the comments.
As purchasing power continues to be chiseled away from the majority either through stagnant wages and continued inflation, or flat-out unemployment and under employment (part-time bullshit jobs)… then who the fuck will buy the shit the genius capitalists produce either via automation or off-shored manufacturing?.?.?.~~~?
Thinks Richard The system looks alike drug addiction, their profit is mind drug.
Hey Professor Wolff, I've been a patron for a couple of months and my pledge page has [email protected] on my list of pledges. But, when I click on one of your Patreon Videos, I get a banner across the top of the page that explains that if I become a patron I will get access to podcasts, audio, and video, before anyone else, etc., etc. >>> Getting to see your videos would be nice, but, I'll keep on donating anyway, because your work is so important! >>> No Worries, Mate! (As they say Down-Under…)
Does he mention incentives at any point duing this? I'm not going to listen to the entire thing because it's a Marxist pretending to know about economics and who has the patience.
I'm sorry, I like your commentary but you are wrong about who controls the decisions of German companies. Here is the structure of the Supervisory Board of Volkswagen. https://www.volkswagenag.com/en/InvestorRelations/corporate-governance/AR.html
We have bad health, because we have a chemical company that invented Agent orange
…and our maternal mortality rate is, most likely, grossly under-reported.
One of the best episodes
Wolff doesn't mention the fact that the income of the millenials, even though often not as much as their parents earned at the same point in their lives, goes MUCH further in the marketplace, thanks to globalization, which provides high-quality manufactured good at a fraction of the price the previous generation had to pay, thus actually RAISING the standard of living of the millenials above that of their parents. He's lying by omission.
If you need to buy a expensive drug, just go to a socialized healthcare country like germany and buy it.But take the medicine there as you probably wont be allowed to take medicine back.Actually move out of USA all togheter.
I have worked for 30 years and I have noticed that the last 6years the hospital I worked for is cutting. Support staff to bare. Bones and put a lot more pressure on the nurses and doctors. Also the nurses spend most of their time on the computer rather then patient care
IT IS YOUR CHOICE…..You have a choice between synthetic medicine and natural medicine, what you choose will depend on your knowledge and your pocket book. We have a two tear system of medicine in Canada, one is paid for with taxes and one is paid out of pocket, this is unfair to the person who has chosen natural as they are paying twice. Natural medicines could save the country up to 60% of the cost for treating and reversing degenerative diseases.…..Natural medicine is growing year by year, approximately 21% of Canadians choose natural, if this trend continues natural medicine will become the norm. People are educating themselves and see the quality of natural over synthetic. Synthetic medicines have some effect on the original complaint but this is only a band aid solution, it never actually heals the problem. If the patient continues using synthetics daily for many years the side effects eventually cause a new dis-ease state to manifest. Ask any senior how many medication’s they are prescribed and you will find some are using more than 10 per day and it barely keeps them comfortable. Yes we live longer today but we do not live healthier.….If the government regulates natural medicine this can be construed as a pathway to make it acceptable, big pharma and the medical association do not want this and they have the power to force the government to do their bidding and they are using it. Profits are more important to big pharma than the health of the people.…..Google “Killing for Profit” this documentary has a panel of MD’s explaining the problems with pharmaceutical medicines and medical procedures.
Retire in Arkansas. Little Rocky.
When you count Dept. of Defense spending with Medicare, most of those funds are raided by corporations for personal wealth and the masses go without basic needs met, you can see we already have socialism: corporate socialism. One of the many reasons our young will not live as long is because they have dirty air & water & living conditions are feudal (we don't have drainage where I live, so all chemicals used in park, including roundup, stay on surface & end up in air. Children & elderly are constantly getting infections. Mortality rate here is high.)
18:07 the companies turn their back on the workers BUT NOT on the CONSUMER. Now they might come back (only with a bribe). It would be smarter to "bribe" local worker co-ops for useful work – they will STAY after the time of subsidies is over.
the drug based system sucks there are better ways i got off them all
Is there financial market in marxist economy?
Professor Wolff you're such a formidable teacher. It is time for you to delineate and present a consise and pratical platform on how to proceed.
