Hi! just like you, I’ve chosen France for
my studies. France is the ideal place to study abroad. So far, I’ve discovered its architecture,
its food, its language: “Bonjour”, baguette, voulez-vous…” Hey, what are you doing? We’re going to be late for my art exhibit! You know, I’ve got to do this video
for Assurance Maladie first. Quoi, what video? But, you know, they asked me to do a video about how to register with French social security. We don’t have time for that, my “vernissage” starts soon! Don’t worry! It will only take two minutes. Okay I’ll get a coffee! So did you know,
everyone must register for health insurance. It’s mandatory. This is how I registered with
the health insurance funds: la Caisse primaire d’Assurance Maladie. First I enrolled in an institute of higher education. Next I applied for French social security on the dedicated website: etudiant-etranger.ameli.fr I submitted the following documents: A Rib Proof of ID A vital record A school certificate And a “titre de séjour” or visa. The website will automatically generate a temporary social security number. I’m immediately entitled to the reimbursement of my medical expenses. I advise you to do these two things. First register with a French primary doctor “a médecin traitant”. He will refer you to a specialist doctor if needed. Secondly choose a top of health insurance. A “mutuelle” or a “complémentaire santé”. It’s the same thing. Doing this will ensure that you get the fullest reimbursement for your health costs. I then received my permanent social
security number. I went on this website “ameli.fr” to create my account. “Et voilà”
I’m free to concentrate on my studies, not worry about health care costs, and enjoy my stay in France! You see I told you it’d be quick. Already ? I haven’t had time to finish my croissant.
