We’re planning a study abroad trip to
Germany in 2018! While we’re there, we’re going to be visiting Berlin and the
students are gonna be able to have the opportunity to engage with the local
history and culture of Germany and they’ll have the opportunity to be able
to see the sights and the sounds of the city of Berlin. This is going to be a
combination of sociology and history. For the history component those students who choose to take history for going to Germany, it’s going to involve the visit
to concentration camps. At first sociology will be visiting some refugee
and emigration centers there’s no experience that you can have on a
college campus that equates to the experience you can have studying abroad.
This is why universities and smaller liberal arts programs have champion
studying abroad. We are one of the very few if not the only community college in
the Gulf Coast region that has a scholarship program. Students have been
given the opportunity to participate in this program for a portion or in some
cases a fraction of the cost that it would be for them to go on their own.
They can contact the international education coordinator for information or
they can come to one of the interest meetings it’s a great way for them to
get more information about the trips but then also to meet some of their
potential travel buddies. This is something that I think would have a
lasting impact on those who participate it opens their horizons you know
introduces them to other cultures other ways other people they realize that
there is a whole world out there. This is why when we continue to think about how we can be global citizens in a 21st century technologically advanced world, why studying abroad is so important.
